FRP grating vs Steel grating
FRP grating and steel grating are two commonly used plates of different materials, both of which have a certain load-bearing capacity and compressive capacity. Friends often ask which one to use. In this article, Unicomposite will compare the similarities and differences between FRP grating and steel grating.
Because steel grating is welded by steel, it is generally used for load-bearing of large equipment, so steel grating has a stronger load-bearing capacity than FRP grating. FRP grating is different from wood and metal plates, and FRP grating has strong toughness.
When subjected to sufficiently high pressure, it does not break or deform. The toughness is strong, so the corresponding crack resistance is high. There are two main reasons:
- The cohesion between the raw material resin and glass fibre yarn is strong.
- The crisscross of glass fibre yarns makes the mesh structure of glass fibre reinforced plastic grid plate more stable.
The density of glass fiber reinforced plastic grating plate is very small because it is composed of glass fibre and resin. Compared with steel grating and glass fibre-reinforced plastic grating of the same specification, the weight of glass fibre-reinforced plastic grating is only one-quarter of that of steel grating. Although the density of glass fibre-reinforced plastic grating is small, the hardness is many times higher than that of polyethene and aluminium.
The raw materials required for FRP grating are made of glass melted at high temperatures, and resin is assisted in the production process, so the production cost of FRP grating is higher than that of steel grating. Although the production cost of FRP grating is high, No maintenance costs are required after the installation of FRP gratings, while steel gratings are less expensive, but they have to pay a lot of maintenance costs later.
Installation of FRP gratings is much simpler than steel grating. Although the cost of glass fibre-reinforced plastic grating is high, its weight is light and the elasticity is good, so it can be cut at will during installation, without using lifting equipment, and only a small amount of labour and cutting tools. Because the FRP grid plate is made of non-metallic materials, the corrosion resistance of the FRP grid is very good. The FRP grid will not rust due to electrochemical corrosion in chemical media, nor will the structure of the material be damaged.
